PDC to host Women’s Series for the first time!

The PDC will stage a four-event Women’s Series in October 2020, giving players the opportunity to qualify for the William Hill World Darts Championship as well as the Grand Slam of Darts.

Two places in the 2020/21 World Championship will be on offer for female players based on prize money won across the four events to be held on October 17-18 in Cannock.

The mini-tour will replace the two separate qualifying tournaments for the World Championship which have been staged over the past two years, offering £20,000 prize money in total across the four events.

Entry will be £25 per player per event, and the PDC Women’s Series will be open to all female players aged 16 and above.

Dates announced for Challenge Tour & Development Tour!

The PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour and Development Tour seasons will both conclude with six-event, three-day weekends to be staged at the Barnsley Metrodome this autumn.

The Challenge Tour and Development Tour had each played one four-event weekend in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic led to the suspension of tournaments in mid-March.

Following the return of competitive PDC action on the ProTour in July, plans have now been confirmed to conclude the secondary tours later this year.

The Development Tour will resume with six £10,000 events to be held in Barnsley from September 25-27, which will then be followed by the early rounds of the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship.

Players confirmed for World Series of Darts Finals!

World number one Michael van Gerwen and reigning World Champion Peter Wright will headline the field for the 2020 World Series Finals, set to take place in Salzburg, Austria, on September 18-20.

The 24-player tournament, hosted at the Salzburgarena, will see eight seeded players competing against 12 invited stars and four qualifiers from the PDC’s 128 tour card holders.

Joining Van Gerwen and Wright as the seeded players will be Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith, Rob Cross, Nathan Aspinall, Daryl Gurney and Gary Anderson.

PDC Autumn Series announced for September!

Elite level darts will return with the PDC Autumn Series, which will be played from September 12-16 in Hildesheim, Germany.

Following the success of July’s Summer Series, all 128 Tour Card Holders will once again be given the chance to compete in five one-day Players Championship events behind closed doors at Halle 39.

All events will be ranked, with the winner of the 2020 PDC Autumn Series Order of Merit to receive a place in this year’s Grand Slam of Darts.

The Autumn Series will comprise the final five tournaments counting towards qualification for the World Grand Prix, with all Tour Card Holders still in with a chance of qualifying for the double-start event, which will take place from October 4-10.

Dimitri van den Bergh is the 2020 World Matchplay champion!

Dimitri van den Bergh claimed a sensational first televised ranking title at the 2020 Betfred World Matchplay on Sunday, defeating 2018 champion, Gary Anderson with a dominant 18-10 victory.

In his debut year at the event, the young Belgian claimed the Phil Taylor trophy in emphatic style at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, averaging almost 100 and hitting four ton-plus finishes along the way.

A nervy start to the final saw the pair struggling to score freely, with both players averaging just 87 going in to the first break, Van den Bergh leading 3-2.

The quality significantly increased during the second session with both players adding a handful of points on to their averages. five consecutive holds of throw saw the match level at 5-5, with both players settling in to the contest.

The PDC Summer Series commences tomorrow!

Player entries have been confirmed for the PDC Summer Series which will see five Players Championship events take place from July 8-12.

117 PDC Tour Card Holders will compete across all five days at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, along with 11 PDPA Associate Members from the PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

As with all 2020 Players Championship events, prize money will stand at £75,000 per event, with all winnings counting towards the relevant PDC Orders of Merit.

The Summer Series will be broadcast live on PDCTV all five days, with each day’s play commencing at 1200 BST.

The 2020 World Matchplay will take place behind closed doors!

The Professional Darts Corporation can confirm that the 2020 Betfred World Matchplay will not take place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, and will instead be played behind closed doors at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes from July 18-26.

The PDC held extensive talks with the UK Government’s Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the venue, host broadcaster Sky Sports and other stakeholders in an attempt to find a safe solution for the World Matchplay to be staged at the Winter Gardens.

However, with this not being possible the tournament will now – for the first time since being introduced in 1994 – be played behind closed doors, with the Marshall Arena being able to provide a protected environment to ensure the safe staging of the event.

PDC Pro Tour set to return on the 8th July with the launch of the “Summer Series”

The Professional Darts Corporation is pleased to announce that live darts will return on Wednesday July 8 with the launch of the PDC Summer Series.

The Summer Series will see all 128 Tour Card Holders given the chance to compete in five one-day Players Championship events from July 8-12, played behind closed doors at Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes subject to the UK Government quarantine policy on overseas visitors.

As with all 2020 Players Championship events, prize money will stand at £75,000 per event, with all winnings counting towards the relevant PDC Orders of Merit.

Nathan Aspinall wins the 2020 PDC Home Tour title!

Nathan Aspinall was crowned champion of the PDC’s first ever home-staged event by winning the Low6 Home Tour Championship Group on Friday night.

As the innovative tournament reached its climax with the final night of action, Aspinall recorded a hat-trick of wins over Gary Anderson, Jonny Clayton and Jelle Klaasen to seal top spot.

The Premier League star, who would have been defending his US Darts Masters title in New York this weekend, kicked off the night in strong fashion with a 6-3 defeat of Dutchman Klaasen.

Gary Anderson also began with a win over Jonny Clayton, before the Scot was edged out 6-5 by Aspinall in one of the highest-quality games of the tournament, which proved crucial in the final standings.
